Gandhiji Seva Niketan, in the city of Bhubaneswar in the eastern Indian state of Odisha, is a hospital that has been treating Hansen's Disease for decades. It is led by Dr Remy Rousselot, a long-serving figure whose name is associated with the institution's continuity through difficult periods.
The work
The hospital continues to deliver leprosy surgery, treatment, and aftercare to patients from across the region. It also offers community-based prevention and education work that addresses the social stigma that remains attached to Hansen's Disease across much of South Asia.
The partnership
The Order's partnership with Gandhiji Seva Niketan is one of its longest standing commitments in Asia — a relationship sustained through the steady support of jurisdictions including the American Association of Saint Lazarus and the Order's Hospitaller Fund.
